Maori Point Vineyard

2013 Maori Point Pinot Gris Grand Reserve

$75

This special Grand Reserve is not your typical Pinot Gris. Selected Pinot Gris grapes from Maori Point vineyard were fermented and then aged in French oak barrels, 50% new. The result is a strikingly complex and unique set of flavours and textures; a truly delicious and exceptional wine, with similarities to a Chardonnay or an aged Marsanne. It is an excellent pairing with seafood and shellfish, especially the richer varieties, and it works well with cream sauces and most cheese, both hard and soft.

Wine critic Raymond Chan gave this wine 5 stars and said, "The nose is soft and yet packed with weight and density, showing savoury yellow stonefruits. There is a core with an amalgam of yellow stonefruits, minerals, nuts and oak. Dry to taste, the palate is rich and fulsome, with breadth, opening smoothly. This has a solidness of mouthfeel with a savoury lusciousness, honey and toasty oak providing roundness, weight and presence."
